At Christ Church, we believe that Religious Education plays a vital role in nurturing our children within a loving and supportive environment where every child is valued.
We follow Manchester Diocesan Syllabus, which has been in place since September 2024.
The syllabus was re-written to ensure that both Christianity and other key faiths have 50% each teaching time within the curriculum content. It is a spiral curriculum, supported by the 'Understanding Christianity' resource and we have invested in the RE Today resources to support the delivery of the curriculum.
The principal aim of religious education is: to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils can gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living; to equip children to live in a diverse world; and for children to understand that we don’t have race-related religion, (diversity in resources).
We extend the content of the Diocesan syllabus by ensuring that in our learning and worship, we learn about the key origins, celebrations and beliefs of other faiths and invite those pupils of other faiths within school to share their knowledge and experience with their peers. We make links across different faiths and reflect this in our learning across the curriculum.
Our RE teaching and learning is designed to reflect the rich tapestry of beliefs that exist in our diverse world, allowing children to flourish as they explore and appreciate various religions and worldviews. Through engaging lessons, they will have the chance to discover what a difference people believe and understand how these beliefs can shape their lives. This not only helps them appreciate diversity but also fosters respect and a sense of confidence as they express their own views and opinions.
Following our Christian values will enable children to feel a sense of community where understanding, tolerance and respect for one another's religion and beliefs thrive. A place where our children gain valuable knowledge and insight into the vibrant world around them, and where every child feels valued and empowered in their own religious, spiritual, philosophical ways of living, believing and thinking.
