At Christ Church our PSHE curriculum aims to provide children with the knowledge and skills to keep themselves happy, healthy and safe, as well as to prepare them for life and work. PSHE aims to give children the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. The subject enables us to live out our school vision by allowing the children to develop their knowledge, make connections, become considerate of others and grow as individuals. Our vision is to enable pupils to develop their whole-selves, reflect on their learning and how they can improve in developing positive and healthy relationships with the many others they encounter. Understanding relationships enables us to value the backgrounds of all our pupils, celebrate differences and learn to be tolerant and inclusive of all.

Navigating our complex world can be challenging, and we work with parents as partners to play a key role in preparing children for the future. PSHE aims to equip pupils to:

Take individual responsibility for and learn to support their physical and mental wellbeing;
understand the risks of drugs and alcohol and how to stay safe online;
develop resilience, independence and responsibility;
develop the personal and social skills required to succeed in commerce and industry;
identify misleading information and be critical of misleading news or views they might encounter.

We include all the content from the Relationships Education statutory document within our PSHE curriculum and aspects of Citizenship.

We are delivering the Scarf resources, from Coram Education in all year groups, which compliments and deepens our PSHE curriculum offer, by supporting pupils to learn strategies to support their mental health and encouraging them to become their best selves.

To enhance our SEMH offer, we use the Coram Mental Wellbeing Toolkit. The areas of focus- endorsed by the NHS-  are Connect, Keep Learning, Be Active, Take Notice and Give. (see document below).
