Revd. S Openshaw

Picture 1
I started as Priest in Charge of Christ Church, Walshaw & St Stephens, Elton in February 2016, and at the same time I became an ex-officio governor of Christ Church Primary School.

Prior to taking up my vocation,  in 1991 I gained a BA from Bolton Institute / the Open University in Social Sciences, and an MSc in Public Sector Management from the University of Birmingham in 2001.

In 2012 I received an FdA from Liverpool Hope University / All Saints Centre for Ministry & Mission.

Before ordination I had a proper job! I worked in the public sector - voluntary and statutory - for over 20 years, as a senior manager in the social care and education sectors, including leading north-west education projects for the 'Office of the Deputy Prime Minister' and the 'Department for Education & Skills'. Between 2004 - 2012 I was a Senior Education Officer for a local authority managing a range of services for children with special / additional educational needs.

Married to Steph since 1988 we have three grown up sons and one daughter in law.

Steph and I love to come in to school on a fortnightly basis to lead assemblies - teaching the children new songs, learning about the love of God together, and praying with them ... always finishing with a big AMEN!.
